Supportive and Down-To-Earth

I have decades of experience working as a psychotherapist in my own private practices and in mental health organizations located in New York, Rhode Island, and New Mexico. Over time I have had the great honor of working with a wide variety of people with extensive challenges such as PTSD and trauma, severe and life threatening mood disorders, sexual assault, domestic violence, and substance abuse/misuse.

While I do have the experience and expertise to address the issues above, at this point in my career I have consciously shifted my service model. Currently my offerings are oriented towards adults managing the stresses and difficulties of modern living and who feel weighed down by life’s challenges. My work is focused on supporting adults navigating personal and relational challenges, as well as the broader emotional impact of our current political, cultural, and environmental upheaval.

The work is always based on what the client’s goals are for the present and for the future, is time limited, and typically includes assisting folks with issues such as:

  • managing life transitions (for people needing support as they move through a major life change or challenge)

  • setting boundaries and learning to communicate more effectively in relationships

  • loneliness and social isolation

  • sadness and lack of motivation

  • anxiety

  • codependence

  • low self-esteem

  • negotiating losses or difficult events that have occurred in adulthood

  • dysfunctional and/or emotionally abusive relationships

I also offer space for adults who are feeling the strain of both personal struggles and the collective

Further, I welcome work with clients to explore issues related to personal identity and growth such as:

  • creativity

  • identifying purpose

  • spirituality

  • sexual identity (LBGTQ+, heterosexual, asexual, pansexual)

  • gender roles within relationships

  • self-definition and identity

I have also created and guided multiple psychoeducational groups on issues such as Wellness and Self-Care, Female Empowerment and Identity, Life Goals Identification, Shame Resilience, Trauma and Addictions, and Expressive Journaling.

As a social justice informed practitioner, I recognize and address the impact of systemic oppression and discrimination on my my client’s mental health and well-being. This is absolutely a part of the exploration I offer. Further, I am primarily educated as a social worker so will always do my best to refer clients to resources that can assist with western and eastern medical providers, adjunctive and alternative health providers, food, clothing, physical protection, and shelter.
